Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make the initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may, however, require you to complete a self-certification form SC1 which is available from your employer.

For any illness lasting longer than seven days you will need to see the doctor for him/her to issue a sickness certificate and for any subsequent renewal of the certificate.

If your employer requires a certificate from the GP for a period of illness lasting less than seven days, the practice will make a charge for this.

Protect yourself against seasonal flu this winter.

Flu is an infectious illness, which can spread rapidly; symptoms usually include fever, chills, headaches, aching muscles, cough and sore throat.

Anyone can get flu but it can be more serious for people aged 65 and over and for those with certain medical conditions. .

Please remember the flu jab is not a live vaccine and CANNOT give you flu. If you had the jab last year, you need to have it again this year.

Who is it for?

If you are aged 65 years and over before 31st March 2012 or in one of the listed at risk groups it is recommended that you have a flu jab. You could be at risk if you suffer from any of the following conditions:

• Chronic Heart Disease
• Stroke/TIA
• COPD
• Asthma
• Diabetes Mellitus
• ChronicRenal Disease
• Chronic Liver Disease
• Weakened Immune system
• Live in a long stay residential or nursing home
• Pregnant

Also included

Are those who are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill.

Had you Flu Immunisation ?

Please let us know if you plan to have your flu immunisation privately, if you will be abroad during the winter months or if there is any other reason why you will not be responding to your invitation.

We only have a limited amount of vaccine left for 2011/12 so please make an appointment with the nurse as soon as possible.  We will be making appointments for 2012/13 from the end of August 2012.
